Get moving with famed Finnish cartoon in ‘Moomin Move’

Moomin Move is now available worldwide with its latest update, that also introduces more multiplayer functions.

Another famous franchise is getting a makeover into a location-based augmented reality game, this time the fairy tale characters from the world of Moomin by Finnish illustrator Tove Jansson.

The game Moomin Move encourages users to walk about in the real world to explore the corresponding game world of Moominvalley, collect items and catch creatures.

Like with fellow location based game Pokemon Go, players will be able to add friends and do quests.

Moomin Move claims to have more location specific content by working with real world partner locations like Moomin Cafes, where players can find unique items.

While the game was previously available only in its home country of Finland, with the version 2.5 update, Moomin Move will be available worldwide.

According to mobile gaming company Tribered's CEO Jani Järvinen, whose team made the game, version 2.5 was the biggest update yet, with aims to push the game into other European countries and Asia too.

“We wanted to make a great game first and foremost, a game that you would want to play for a long time, not just another Moomin game, he adds.

Version 2.5 rolls out more group features, allowing players to chat with friends in game, and team to complete quests together for weekly rewards and to compete for a spot on the leaderboard.

Launched in July 2017, Moomin Move is now available on the iOS App Store and Google Play store as a free-to-play game, though it does include in-app purchases.
