Fujifilm has launched its latest mirrorless camera, the X-T3, aimed at videographers.

Fujifilm Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Fumiaki Sato says it is the first mirrorless digital camera capable of high resolution, high frame rate SD-card recording.

He highlighted that the X Processor 4 has four cores to achieve image processing speed about three times faster than that of current models.

“Not only boosting AF accuracy and speed substantially, the engine is the world’s first to deliver 4K/60P 10bit output, meeting the needs of professional videographers, in a mirrorless camera equipped with a sensor in the APS-C size or larger,” he said, when launching the camera.

This means the camera is capable of recording 4K videos at a high frame rate of 60fps (frames per second) while the support for 10bit colour depth boosts the amount of colour information by 64 times compared to 8bit.

To make it more capable at capturing moving objects, the camera’s sensor has more than four times the number of phase detection pixels distributed across its frame compared to current models. This allows it to focus 1.5x faster.

Aiming to be used by sports photographers, the X-T3 also boasts a continuous shooting of 11fps and introduces a Pre-Shoot function that shoots as soon as the shutter button is half-pressed.

“It is also capable of instantaneously handling complex image processing tasks such as ‘Colour Chrome Effect’ and ‘Monochrome Adjustment’ function, achieving Warm Black/Cool Black tone in digital, which is adopted as one of the way of expression for monochrome print in silver halide film,” added Sato.

While the new sensor has a higher 26-megapixel resolution, compared to the Fujifilm X-T2, Sato claims the camera has an even lower sensitivity of ISO 160.

The button layout and silver-black design is similar to its predecessor, the X-T2, for the benefit of existing users.

The X-T3 is expected to get a firmware update at the end of this year to give it support for video recording in the Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and the ability to simultaneously output Film Simulation and F-Log footage.

The camera weighs 539g with battery and memory card, and is 13.25 × 9.28 × 5.88cm in size.

The market price is set at RM7,388 for just the camera body and RM8,388 for body with 18-55mm kit lens.
