Xbox One gamers can look forward to an update that brings much-awaited Dolby Vision compatibility, Microsoft manager Brad Rossetti has announced on Twitter.

The firmware update will allow both the Xbox One S and the flagship Xbox One X to play footage using the extended colour space and dynamic range of HDR, provided you have a compatible TV set.

That means the Xbox looks set to become the first gaming console to support Dolby Vision. The update is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.

Dolby Vision is a format for high-dynamic range (HDR) video, which can increase the dynamic range of pictures for brighter whites and darker blacks, giving more depth to objects that might look flat on other screens. — dpa
