LOS ANGELES: Devil May Cry 5 is officially happening. Publisher and developer Capcom debuted the high-octane action game during Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference on Sunday.
It will feature the fast-paced combat the series is known for, along with its over-the-top bonkers attitude.
In DMC 5, several years have passed since the legions of Hell invaded our world, but now a new demonic threat is rising. A “demon tree” takes root in Red Grave City and attracts the attention of Nero, an ally to DMC protagonist Dante. Missing his demonic arm, which is the source of his power, Nero and her partner Nico will tackle the hellish threat while searching for Dante.
There will be three playable characters in the game, each one offering a radically different play style. Capcom is apparently using full costumed models for all of its characters, so it can render them as realistically as possible.
“We think we’ve made something that feels better than any action game we’ve ever created,” Capcom said.
The Devil May Cry series has sold 16 million units over its lifespan, but it’s been 10 years since fans got to stomp demon faces in Devil May Cry 4. Developer Ninja Theory created a series reboot, DmC: Devil May Cry, in 2013 that was well-received by critics and reportedly sold well in Japan, yet failed to catch on with the Western gaming audience. Capcom was forced to reduce its sales target by 800,000. Afterwards, many wondered if the game’s poor reception had doomed the beloved franchise.
Devil May Cry 5 is expected to launch in Spring 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox. — Reuters
