Go beyond words

Need more voting buzz? Instagram's new Emoji Slider feature lets you poll friends on how strongly they feel about your Instagram stories.

In a post on Instagram's press page, the company says the feature allows for more nuanced answers by letting friends use a sliding scale, while the emoji 'adds a layer of emotional context that helps those answering understand your tone and answer accordingly".

To add an Emoji Slider to a story, select it from the sticker tray when posting a photo or video.

"Place it anywhere you’d like and write out your question. Then set the emoji that best matches your question’s mood," says Instagram.

Users can select from a pool of popular emojis, or choose almost any emoji from its library if users have something specific in mind.

To respond to an emoji slider in a story, drag the emoji to the left or right, then release the emoji to set a response. Once set, users can also see the current average of how others have responded so far.

The emoji will also animate as users slide it to make their decision.

"Whether you’re looking for input or just want to see who’s around, interactive tools like the poll sticker and Emoji Slider help you get closer with your friends and followers," says Instagram.

The new feature is available as part of Instagram's latest update for iOS and Android.
