A six-month roadmap for Destiny 2 serves as a waypoint marker for May 8's update and Warmind expansion, a summer seasonal event, and a clutch of September improvements.
Development studio Bungie has charted out the next six months of anticipated updates and improvements to its shared-world sci-fi shooter Destiny 2, as it approaches the end of its first year.
"Our vision for the future is converging with critical player feedback to deliver transformative changes to Destiny 2," game director Christopher Barrett wrote in an April 11 news update.
"For now it's all hands on deck to make sure we deliver on our promise to restore Destiny 2 to the hobby we all love."
His comments illustrate an awareness that Destiny 2 is not quite the game that fans had expected – at least, not yet.
Contained within the May 8 update will be seasonal crucible rankings, private versus matches, increased vault space, a multi-emote function, exotic weapon masterworks and exotic weapon sandbox changes.
There'll be seasonal vendor progression, heroic strike modifiers, and Nightfall challenge cards to boot.
And the Warmind expansion, a tranche of purchasable content arriving alongside the free Season 3 update, will "send [players] to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies", to "earn new loot and master new activities".
Its title refers to a network of computer-controlled planetary defense systems, housed within foreboding vaults, first introduced in 2014 Destiny expansion The Dark Below.
Warmind also brings with it several new maps for the multiplayer versus mode Crucible; those and other expansion-based maps will be available to everyone, while private matches will require all participants to have purchased the relevant expansion in order to play.
With both a development roadmap and a post-launch content schema published as part of its announcement, Bungie's Warmind expansion can be received as something of an overture toward its most enthusiastic fans.
A live reveal stream has been dated for April 24 through twitch.tv/bungie. — AFP Relaxnews
