Don't Starve, Firewatch announced for Nintendo Switch

The award-winning Don't Starve and Firewatch are on their way to the Switch, with the former arriving in a week and the latter set for sometime over the next few months.

First released late on in 2012, Don't Starve took the growing enthusiasm for open world survival and wrapped it up in a macabre, hand-drawn style.

Casting the player as a scientist doomed to almost certain death on the surface of a strange planet in an alternative dimension, Canadian Don't Starve studio Klei added a Reign Of Giants expansion at the start of 2014 and, by the end, met frequent requests for multiplayer survival with Don't Starve Together.

Its 2015 add-on, Shipwrecked, further expanded the game's remit and, when Don't Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition arrives on April 12 – almost five years after the Mac, Linux and PC version's 2013 graduation from Steam Early Access – all three expansions will be included in the package.

As for Firewatch, the 2016 debut title from US-based Campo Santo, having started on the PlayStation 4 console and Mac, PC and Linux computers before making its way to Xbox One, the forest mystery adventure comes to Nintendo Switch in northern Spring.

The scenic thriller won Best Narrative at the Game Developers Choice Awards, while Don't Starve had been a double nominee at the GDCAs' sister ceremony, the Independent Games Festival.

Though Campo Santo did not lay down a definitive date for Firewatch, a spring window narrows things down to April or May of 2018.

The studio attracted immediate attention upon its formation due to its co-founders' role in a critically acclaimed adaptation of The Walking Dead. It is currently working on a second game, In The Valley Of Gods, which is an archaeological adventure set in 1920s Egypt. — AFP Relaxnews
