AI on the wrist: Participants tested the app on the Samsung Simband wearable. The device captures high-resolution psychological waveforms to measure physical parameters such as changes in body temperature, blood pressure and heart rate, as well as movement.

A team of researchers in the USA has developed an artificial intelligence system that can detect the tone of conversations and analyse speech. This portable application could be useful for people with anxiety disorders or Asperger's.

A single conversation can be interpreted in a variety of ways. A new AI system emulates the human ability to identify emotions and the tone of speech to establish whether conversations are sad, happy or neutral. This brings scientists closer to developing a potential solution.
