Experimental: The Snap Channel comprised original content such as short musical or narrative clips.

Snapchat has opted to shut down its original content-focused Snap Channel completely.

The social network has decided not to continue with the project, which it launched back in January, Deadline reports.

Snap Channel comprised original content such as short musical or narrative clips and served as a research experiment by the tech brand as to what equates to successful original content.

Snap Channel was removed from the Discovery platform earlier this year, with the company promising to reinstate it. However, that is no longer the plan.

Marcus Wiley, head of program planning and development, will move on to pastures new following the announcement. — AFP Relaxnews
