Samsung has launched its slimmest Galaxy smartphone yet, the Galaxy A8, which measures just 5.9mm, making it thinner than even the company’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6.

The A8 has a full metal body and a 5.7in Super Amoled full HD display with a narrow bezel that’s only 2.5mm wide to provide a more immersive experience.

“The A8 is a beautifully crafted device. Stylish on the outside and substantiated by incredible performance on the inside,” said Lee Jui Siang, Samsung Malaysia Electronics vice president for mobile, IT and digital imaging.

Even though it has a slender frame, it packs a 16-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera, both with a f/1.9 aperture for capturing clear and sharp pictures even in low light conditions.

If features Quick Launch which allows the user to launch the camera at anytime by double clicking the home button, and Wide Selfie mode for capturing a larger group of people.

Under the hood, it has an Exynos octa-core processor,  2GB RAM, and a fairly large battery rated at 3,050mAh.

It also features a theme manger for changing the look of the user interface, fingerprint sensor for authentication, and Smart Manger for users to easily check the battery status, storage and if the device is free from malware.

The A8 is available in three colours – gold, white and black – and retails for RM1,888 (inclusive of GST).
