Big money: The International is the largest Dota2 tournament in the world. In 2014 the total prize money up for grab was US$10.9mil (RM39mil).

Good news for local Dota2 fans as Team Malaysia has secured a direct invite to the largest Dota2 tournament, The International 2015, which will be held in August.

The annual tournament, which takes place in Seattle, United States, is often called the “World Cup” of MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena).

Team Malaysia was the last to be selected in a list of 10 which includes last year’s champion, Team Newbee from China, as well as Vici Gaming and Invictus Gaming from China, Evil Geniuses from the United States, and Team Secret.

Team Malaysia is made up of “Mushi” Chai Yee Fung, “kYxY” Lee Kong Yang, “Kecik Imba” Fadil bin Mohd Raziff, “Ohaiyo” Khoo Chong Xin, and “JoHnNy” Lee Siong Tait.

Mushi, kYxY and Ohaiyo were part of Orange eSports when it was placed third in The International in 2013.

Interestingly, Invictus Gaming from China also has one of the best Malaysian Dota2 player – Wong Hock Chuan, also known as ChuaN in gaming circles.

ChuaN, who is based in China, is a gaming veteran who was part of the team when it won The International  tournament in 2012.

In addition to the 10 directly invited teams announced today, four more teams will be selected from regional qualifiers, and two more “wild card” teams will be added.

Last year, The International 2014 offered the largest prize pool money in history for eSports with US$10.9mil (RM39mil) and the winning team took home a staggering US$5mil (RM17.9mil).

The prize pool for this year’s game is still growing by the minute, and has passed the US$6mil (RM21.47mil) mark at the time of writing.
