The teenagers' ephemeral messaging app of choice has been looking into launching its own music label.
According to emails that have leaked onto the Web following the Sony hack (Sony Entertainment's CEO, Michael Lynton, is on Snapchat's board), Snapchat's CEO, Evan Spiegel, sees the app as a perfect platform for music curation and discovery.
Rather than launch a music streaming or download service, Spiegel wanted to bring together a group of artists who chime with Snapchat's users and market and promote them directly to its growing user base.
As well as musical aspirations, the emails also reveal that Snapchat is looking to diversify and in recent months has acquired a start-up company, Vengeance Labs, which makes smart glasses, as well as a company that specialises in the iBeacon technology, which can push location-specific offers and services to a user's smartphone. — AFP/Relaxnews 2014
