WASHINGTON: In just a short time, BlackBerry went from being the coolest gadget-maker on the planet to one apparently destined for the history books. 

The firm, which agreed to a US$4.7bil (RM15.04bil) buyout to take the firm private, appears close to a breakup, which might salvage some parts of the once high-flying Canadian tech pioneer.
