KUALA LUMPUR: IT security vendor Trend Micro Inc is positioning itself as a cloud-computing security-solutions provider with a suite of products made specially for the virtualised environment.
Given the fact that cloud computing has the IT industry abuzz, Trend Micro believes it is a hot market to tackle and has high growth opportunities.
The cloud security market is a US$30.1bil (RM96.3bil) market that covers areas such as infrastructure security, data protection and cloud application security.
Danny Siew, senior director of technical support for the Asia Pacific region at Trend Micro Malaysia, said the company hopes to enable users to do more on the cloud and with more confidence, by keeping them protected.
“A new malware is created every 1.5 seconds and most are used to steal confidential data that is put on sale by the cybercriminals. For this reason, there is increased demand for tighter security,” he said.
Leading its suite of products is the Trend Micro Deep Security — a server and application protection solution for virtualised datacentres.
This solution was created to help IT administrators tackle several concerns in managing their datacentres, such as gaining visibility to inter-virtual machine attacks; keeping up with various patches for a mix of server operating systems and applications; as well as adhering to compliance factors and regulations of managing a virtualised datacentre.
Deep Security is a virtualisation-aware solution that off-loads key anti-malware, intrusion detection solutions and intrusion prevention solutions onto the virtual machines .
Trend Micro claims this method improves the performance of virtual machines and reduces complexities in managing the datacentre.
The solution also automatically detects vulnerabilities in the operating system and applications, and patches them virtually to protect them from exploits.
It also monitors the integrity of the systems and applications, and provides detailed logging and reporting of system changes and activity from anti-malware services.
The other solution is Trend Micro SecureCloud 1.1, which provides simple, policy-based key management and data encryption for public and private cloud computing environments.
The solutions helps users manage their encryption keys for cloud services such as Amazon EC2, Eucalyptus and VMware vCloud from Trend Micro’s hosted SecureCloud service, or from a SecureCloud key server running in the datacentre.
The solution is available on a monthly or annual subscription model or through traditional software licensing. Both solutions are meant to secure the virtualised environments.
Trend Micro also has solutions to secure mobile devices that can be used to access information on the cloud while on the go.
It’s End Point Encryption solution provides easy-to-use centrally managed data encryption for PCs, notebooks, Tablets and smartphones while its Endpoint Encryption for removable media provides protection for files and folders in internal storage or portable storage devices.
