SIRIM introduces new AI and Innovation Management certifications

Fadillah (fourth from left) launched SIRIM Bhd’s two newly introduced certifications at the Majlis SIRIM Industri 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. At the same event, SIRIM Bhd was recognised by The Malaysia Book of Records for employing 396 auditors — the highest number of auditors in a single organisation in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: SIRIM Bhd announced the introduction of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Management System Certification (ISO/IEC 42001) and the Innovation Management System Certification (MS ISO 56001) at the Majlis SIRIM Industri 2025.

These initiatives reflect Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening governance, responsibility and best practices in emerging technologies, while supporting the country’s broader digital and innovation agendas.

The AI Management System Certification (ISO/IEC 42001), the world’s first standard for responsible and transparent AI governance, offers organisations a structured framework to manage artificial intelligence ethically and accountably. It enhances trust, reduces risks and aligns AI-driven solutions with internationally recognised principles of safety and reliability, supporting national digital and economic development goals.

Alongside the AI certification, SIRIM also introduced the Innovation Management System Certification (MS ISO 56001) offers a systematic approach for organisations to manage innovation effectively. It strengthens internal processes, foster structured creativity and builds long-term innovation capability. Together, these certifications equip Malaysian industries to navigate the evolving technological landscape and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The launch was officiated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof.

Guests of honour included Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) deputy secretary-general (investment and management) Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil, SIRIM Bhd chairman Datuk Dr Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi, SIRIM Bhd acting president and group chief executive officer Nik Sazali Nik Hussin and members of SIRIM board of directors.

In his opening address, Fadillah said the initiative supports the government's commitment under the Ekonomi Madani framework and the 13th Malaysia Plan to position Malaysia among the top 30 global economies.

He emphasised the RM8bil allocation for advancing Malaysia’s aspiration to become an AI Nation by 2030.

“This is a clear signal of Malaysia's intent. We are preparing not only to keep pace with global technological advancements, but also to lead in responsible and impactful technology adoption,” he added.

Khairol Anuar said that while the past 50 years were about building a strong foundation, the next 50 will be driven by transformation. Through SIRIM 3.0, SIRIM is redefining how quality, innovation and sustainability converge integrating digitalisation, renewable energy and circular economy across its core functions.

“This transition is already in motion. We are supporting the nation’s net-zero ambitions through Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage; ensuring the safety of our energy transition through the National Rechargeable Battery Testing Centre and boosting industrial competitiveness via Smart Tech Up Programme, which aims to create 3,000 smart factories by 2030. This is the future we are building.”

At the same event, SIRIM Bhd was recognised by The Malaysia Book of Records for employing 396 auditors, the highest number of auditors in a single organisation in Malaysia. This recognition reflects SIRIM’s significant technical capacity and its commitment to national quality assurance.

Majlis SIRIM Industri 2025, themed “Quality and Sustainability through AI-Driven Innovation,” serves as SIRIM’s annual platform to strengthen collaboration between industry, government agencies and partners, while recognising organisations certified by SIRIM QAS International in 2024.

During this period, a total of 3,000 organisations were certified by SIRIM QAS International and more than 1,500 products were certified, further strengthening the credibility of Malaysian-made products worldwide.
