“Our strategic focus is on cultivating an inclusive and high-value AI ecosystem,” said Khairol Anuar.
FOR more than five decades, SIRIM Bhd has been at the centre of Malaysia’s industrial research and development. From supporting the early foundations of manufacturing to advancing today’s intelligent and digital economy, it has consistently strengthened national capabilities, built industry confidence and contributed to Malaysia’s growth as an innovation-driven nation.
Malaysia is now embarking on a remarkable new journey, shaped by the boundless potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This technology is more than just a tool; it is a partner in progress, poised to redefine the nation's future.
The organisation is honoured to play a pivotal role in guiding this national transformation, ensuring that it remains technologically advanced while staying firmly grounded in trust, ethics and sustainable growth for all Malaysians.
Strengthening national aspirations through strategic alignment
This year’s Majlis Industri SIRIM 2025 theme - Quality and Sustainability Through AI Driven Innovation reflects its alignment with key national agendas, including the Madani Economy Framework, the 13th Malaysia Plan and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). These frameworks outline Malaysia’s ambition to build a high-value, inclusive and digitally empowered economy.
“Our strategic focus is on cultivating an inclusive and high-value AI ecosystem. We are actively aligning SIRIM’s initiatives such as advancing smart manufacturing and next-generation industrial technologies with national blueprints like NIMP 2030,” said SIRIM Bhd chairman Datuk Dr Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi.
“The potential is significant: studies show that embedding AI in manufacturing can increase productivity by up to 40% while reducing operational costs by up to 20%.”
He added: “Our responsibility is to ensure these technological gains translate into genuine, shared prosperity, uplifting industries, strengthening competitiveness and advancing sustainability for the nation.”
In this rapidly evolving landscape, proactive and principled governance is essential. SIRIM is committed to ensuring that Malaysia’s adoption of AI is guided by strong ethical foundations, robust security standards and a just transition for the workforce.
Its efforts reinforce the Government’s vision of leveraging AI as a catalyst for economic expansion and regional leadership.
SIRIM 3.0: Transforming for the next 50 years
To meet these national aspirations, SIRIM has embarked on a bold and future-ready transformation.
“If our first 50 years were dedicated to building Malaysia’s industrial foundation, the next 50 will be defined by transformation through SIRIM 3.0,” he shared.
SIRIM 3.0 reimagines how quality, innovation and sustainability converge to drive industrial growth. This transformation embeds digitalisation, renewable energy and circular economy principles across its core functions, testing, certification, industrial development, innovation and talent development. Through this holistic approach, SIRIM aims to position Malaysia as a leader in ethical, sustainable and high-value industrial growth.
A future defined by integrity, innovation and sustainability
As Malaysia advances toward a digitally empowered and AI-driven future, SIRIM remains steadfast as the nation’s compass — guiding industries to innovate with integrity, grow sustainably and compete globally.
“Our commitment extends beyond adopting new technologies; it centres on embedding ethics, quality and sustainability at the heart of national development,” he explained.
He also extended sincere appreciation to the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) for their continued support, which is instrumental in enabling SIRIM to fulfil its national mandate.
