THERE has recently been a huge increase in interest on plant-based foods in the Western market, which have always prioritised meat as the main source of protein.

The Grains of Truth 2022 report published by science-based global platform EAT, which surveyed nearly 30,000 people, across 31 countries, showed that although eating healthy food has remained steady, there is a small but steady increase in eating vegetarian, or vegan food from 2019 to 2022.

The reason is that consumers are increasingly being personally affected by climate changes, through exposure to extreme heat and food price increase.

The increase highlights rising consumer concerns for food shortages caused by major world events, like the recent Covid-19 and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Consumers are therefore either switching to or adding vegetarian, even vegan food, to their diets as a holistic solution.

Another research done by Plant-based Food Institute showed that the plant-based segment grew by 54% from 2018 to 2021 as customers who buy plant-based foods are motivated by personal health concerns, while 49% stated they believe plant-based alternatives are healthier than animal-based foods.

Introducing Yumeat, a first shelf-stable plant-based product in the market and can be stored in an ambient environment and ready to eat out of the can.

As it is produced by Ayam Brand, you can expect the same excellence in production and quality control from a food leader and made to suit the taste of local flavours.

Plant-based benefits

Made of plant-based ingredients like soya, oats and shitake mushrooms, Yumeat is rich in protein with no fat.

It is also free of cholesterol, which is the main cause for certain health concerns such as heart diseases and other related conditions.

Yumeat Plant-based Luncheon Original contains 53% less fat, 23% less salt and seven times more fibre, according to the HPB Energy & Nutrient Composition, as compared to luncheon meat products.

Versatile for delicious recipes

Yumeat range of products comes in a can, which makes it easy and simple to open up and immediately cut out into slices or chunks for dishes like plant-based luncheon meat aglio olio spaghetti.

It can also be added to local favourites, such as the plant-based luncheon meat fried rice, as topping for fried or soup noodles or simply sandwiched between two bread pieces, then garnished with cucumbers and tomatoes for a light in-between snack.

You could even toast that in an oven toaster until lightly crisp and eaten for breakfast with fried eggs and bread.
