Gleneagles Medini invests in new technologies to meet healthcare demand in southern region

GLENEAGLES Hospital Medini Johor wants to position itself as the leading hospital not only in the state but the southern region as well – offering distinctive services to complement the healthcare ecosystem of Johor.

“We are here on a long term mission to help improve and enhance the livelihood of the people of Johor as well as complement both public and private healthcare services,” says the hospital’s chief executive officer Dr Kamal Amzan.

He says Covid-19 has opened up “new dimensions on how the hospital is being operated which has never been seen before.”

“Things have changed in the past two years, with the pandemic,’’ says Dr Kamal.

He says public healthcare plays a critical role in the management of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic respiratory diseases, and Gleneagles Medini aspires to support public hospitals in more critical fields such as stent procedures or bypass for cardiac cases.

On medical tourism, Dr Kamal says private healthcare entities are making huge investments in this sector to drive better quality services, as well as provide safer and the latest technology for treatment.

Citing the hospital’s decision to introduce a cancer centre, he says it is to meet patients’ demand.

“The people of Johor will no longer have to wait for two weeks for treatment or travel all the way to the Klang Valley when it can be done here at Gleneagles Medini,” he says, adding that 70% of the patients are locals and the rest, expatriates.

He says Gleneagles Medini has state-of-the-art facilities for patients, and the hospital will be introducing its new PET CT scan unit in the first quarter of 2022 to serve cancer patients.

Dr Kamal lauds the public healthcare system which subsidises cost of treatment, adding that insurance providers play a complementary role by providing policies that cover the bill at private healthcare centres.

On that note, Gleneagles Medini will continue to invest in new technologies to meet the demand for private healthcare in the southern region.

“Gleneagles Medini will also introduce a stroke centre next year and focus on minimally-invasive surgery, as we continue to provide our patients with better services, higher accuracy and faster recovery,” he says.

Dr Kamal adds that the hospital is incorporating robotic equipment in its services to deliver better treatment outcomes for patients.

Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor aims to be the hub of knowledge not just for other doctors but to produce skilled nurses to elevate the standard and quality of healthcare services.

“It is important that we distinguish ourselves through our offerings so that our relationship with public hospitals, private hospitals and especially our patients can flourish,” he says.

Gleneagles Medini welcomes the government’s move to reopen the border between Malaysia and Singapore as this will be a boost to Johor’s economic revival after more than 20 months of border closure.
