Kinross gets first taste of major challenge with national squad

PETALING JAYA: The spotlight is on Michael Kinross as he begins his first duty as national swimming coach at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The American Kinross, who took over the reins in May, will be leading the team of four swimmers – Khiew Hoe Yean, Jayden Tan, Ananda Lim Yin Chuen, and Arvin Shaun Singh as they begin their campaign at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre today.

Malaysia Aquatics secretary Andy Low said the Games serve as a preparation platform for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in September and next year’s SEA Games, and is confident Kinross is on the right track to getting the best out of the athletes.

“Kinross is a good coach. He knows what he’s doing, and he knows what the management wants to see as well,” said Andy.

“Most importantly, he’s helping the athletes progress and improve.

“The main goal in Glasgow would be to see our athletes break national records and hit their personal bests.”

The governing body had not set any medal targets for the four swimmers, but aimed to see them finish in the top 10s in their respective events.
