Swimming-South Africa's Coetze breaks men's 50m backstroke short-course world record

Oct ⁠9 (Reuters) - South ⁠Africa's Pieter Coetze ‌set a 50m backstroke short-course world ​record on ⁠Friday with ⁠a time of ⁠22.09 seconds ‌at ⁠a World Aquatics World ​Cup ‌meet in Tashkent, ⁠Uzbekistan.

The ​previous record of 22.11 ⁠was set ​by Russia's Kliment Kolesnikov in Kazan ⁠in 2022.

Kolesnikov also holds the long-course record ​of ⁠23.55.
