Swimming-Australia lock up coach Taylor until 2028 Olympics

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Rohan Taylor, who led Australia's swimming team to 19 medals at the Paris Olympics, has been reappointed head coach until the end of the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, Swimming Australia said on Friday.

Taylor took over Australia's preparations for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 after his predecessor Jacco Verhaeren quit when the Games were postponed for a year because of COVID.

The team won a record nine gold medals in Japan and seven titles in the Paris pool under his guidance, falling one short of matching the tally of perennial powerhouse the United States.

"I am honoured to be leading the Olympic programme to LA and privileged to be working with the coaches, athletes and high-performance leadership that make our Dolphins team successful," the 56-year-old said in a news release.

"None of us exist in isolation and the quest for excellence is ongoing across all programmes."
