Swimmer Faang Der smashes national record at Sukma XIX

IPOH: Swimmer Tia’a Faang Der from Johor set the first national record in the 19th edition of Sukma in winning the boys’ 400m individual medley race here on Monday (Sept 17).

The 20-year-old clocked 4:30.48 to smash the previous national record of 4:30.85 by Sebastian Soon at the Asean Schools Games in Kuala Lumpur two months ago.

Sebastian from Federal Territories also recorded his best time in clocking 4:30.79 but settled for silver.

Arvin Shaun Singh of Terengganu took bronze with 4:33.01.

It was also a new Games record, smashing the 16-year-old previous best of 4:34.14 held by Sarawakian Die Ung Manggang since 2002.
