Another close call as Sivasangari loses to Hania in Egypt Open semis

PETALING JAYA: National squash ace S. Sivasangari bowed out in the semi-finals of the Egyptian Open after losing to home favourite Hania El Hammamy on Thursday (Oct 15).

Fourth seed Sivasangari put up a gallant fight before going down 6-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-0, 10-12 to defending champion Hammamy in an 86-minute battle at the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Hammamy will face world No. 1 and compatriot Amina Orfi in the final.

Sivasangari and Hammamy have met four times this year, with the Egyptian winning all but their battles have always been closely contested, with none decided in straight sets.

The 27-year-old Sivasangari, who is set to rise to a career-high world No. 4 next week, will now head to the United States to compete in the Silicon Valley Open in California from Oct 20-24.
