PETALING JAYA: S. Sivasangari gave the national squash camp double joy after securing her Olympic Games spot by defending her Asian Games gold medal against India’s Anahat Singh on Sunday (Sept 27).
Top seed Sivasangari was flawless at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena as she clinched her second Asiad crown with a 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 win in 24 minutes over fourth seed Anahat.
The 27-year-old Sivasangari is the first name in the 16-player draw set to compete at squash’s debut at the Olympic in Los Angeles.
At the same time, Sivasangari’s gold medal was Malaysia’s sixth in Japan, thus seeing the national contingent achieve their gold medal target.
Earlier, men’s singles player Ng Eain Yow also booked his Olympics ticket by winning Malaysia’s fifth gold medal in Japan by defeating India’s Abhay Singh.
