PETALING JAYA: Malaysia remain in the hunt to retain both squash singles gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after Ng Eain Yow and S. Sivasangari powered into the finals on Saturday (Sept 26).
And if they successfully retain their titles in Sunday’s (Sept 27) finals, both will also qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Eain Yow had little trouble against Pakistan’s Noor Zaman, winning 11-7, 11-2, 11-4 in just 20 minutes at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena.
He will face India’s Abhay Singh in the final. Abhay knocked out Pakistan's Mohamad Irfan, 11-3, 12-10, 11-6 in the other semi-final.
Sivasangari also came through comfortably in the women’s event, beating Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 in 26 minutes.
She will take on India’s Anahat Singh, who fought back to beat Japan’s Satomi Watanabe 9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3.
Eain Yow and Sivasangari both won gold at the 2022 Hangzhou edition.
