PETALING JAYA: Malaysia ended up as runners-up at the World Junior Team Championships after falling 0-2 to Egypt in the girls’ final in Canada on Friday (July 31).
The top seeds outclassed the Malaysian girls at Niagara-on-the-Lake, successfully defending their title to claim a 13th team crown and an 11th consecutive title.
Malaysia’s Whitney Isabelle Wilson lost 7-11, 5-11, 10-12 to Malika Elkarasky while Doyce Lee went down 2-11, 3-11, 3-11 to Habiba Rizk.
It was Malaysia’s sixth runners-up finish, with their previous final appearance at the 2023 edition.
Egypt also defended the boys’ team title with a 2-0 victory over the United States, marking their ninth in the series.
