Sweet start for Eain Yow as he clears Swiss hurdle at World C’ships

PETALING JAYA: National No. 1 Ng Eain Yow (pic) has cleared his opening hurdle, beating Swiss player Yannick Wilhelmi 11-7, 11-5, 12-0 to reach the second round of the World Championships in Cairo yesterday.

Eain Yow will face either Egyptian Mohd Abouelghar or qualifier Sam-Osborne Wylde of England in the second round today.

If he manages to reach the third round, the Malaysian is likely to face another Egyptian Youssef Ibrahim for a place in the last eight.

The good thing is that Eain Yow will have one day’s rest as the third round will take place on Tuesday.

Eain Yow is navigating a challenging season, falling to 17th in the world after a career-high No. 10 last year.

He has faced several early tournament exits this year and needs a good outing in Cairo to turn the tide around.
