PETALING JAYA: S. Sivasangari pulled off a stunner as she handed top seed Olivia Weaver an upset to book her spot in the final of the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup on Saturday (Feb 8).
World No. 10 Sivasangari only dropped a set en route to winning 11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5 against the No. 4 player from the United States in the semi-finals in Ohio.
Third seed Sivasangari played solid squash against defending champion Weaver, as the result was a shocker given that Sivasangari had never won against home-favourite Weaver in the past.
This was the sixth meeting between the two players, and Sivasangari had never defeated Weaver, which made the win for a spot in the final that much more sweet for Sivasangari.
Sivasangari will now take on another home favourite in second seed Amanda Sobhy in the final.
Sobhy has the lead in the head-to-head against Sivasangari, having won two of their previous three encounters.
Sivasangari will be looking to get her revenge on Sobhy after the No. 17 player eliminated her in the Tournament of Champions first round last month.
