Batu Pahat HA continues its proud tradition of supporting juniors in their sporting dream of achieving success


The YB Onn Abu Bakar Cup 2026 hockey tournament concluded successfully in Batu Pahat, attracting strong participation and showcasing exciting competitions across all categories.

Organised by the Batu Pahat Hockey Association, the tournament featured 20 Under-12 (U12) teams, 12 Open teams, and 6 Veteran teams, highlighting the growing interest in hockey at both grassroots and competitive levels. 

Under the leadership of Batu Pahat Hockey Association President, Muhammad Hafis Abdullah, promised that they will continue to support the young stars of hockey in their quest for success in the game.

"Matches throughout the tournament were intense and competitive, with players displaying excellent skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Open and Veteran categories were further elevated by the participation of current and former national players, adding quality and excitement to the event," said Muhammad Hafis. "This is a big success for us."

In a heartwarming initiative, the Batu Pahat Hockey Association surprised all Under-12 participants by presenting a hockey stick to every player, reinforcing its commitment to grassroots development and inspiring young athletes to continue pursuing the sport.

Meanwhile, former national coach and deputy president of Batu Pahat HA, said the tournament was an excellent success especially in its aim of pushinh the sport to the grassroot level.

:We have many young players who have a lot of potential in the game, We will continue to support and hopefully we produce more players for the national teams," said Sarjit. 

An additional RM1000 cash incentive was awarded to all teams in the Under-12 and Veteran categories, sponsored by Dr. Jaiwant Singh, Managing Director of Asia Group of Companies, as part of efforts to further support grassroots and veteran hockey development.

"We, the organisers would like to express their sincere gratitude to Onn Abu Bakar, Member of Parliament for Batu Pahat, for his generous funding and continuous support. Appreciation is also extended to the President of Johor Hockey Association, Datuk Majid Manjit Abdullah and Datuk Zahari Sarip, Deputy President of the Johor HA, and all parties involved in making the tournament a success. Special thanks are also extended to Kuckreja Company for their valuable partnership and support," said Sarjit.

"Looking ahead, the the Batu Pahat HA are optimistic about expanding the tournament further, with plans to make the next edition even bigger, including a target of 100 Under-12 teams, strengthening its role as a premier grassroots hockey event."

On top of that, Sarjit said they have also identified several Tamil schools in the area and the Batu Pahat HA will also supporting their dreams of playing the game.

"Several Tamil schools have been identified as having potential od producing excellent hockey players. We will support them with hockey sticks and equipment. We will always be ready to help schools and improve the game among the juniors," said Sarjit.

Special Awards (Open):

*    Best Goalkeeper: Qayyum (Matador HC)

*      Top Scorer: Eswaran (Star Senior) – 8 goals

*    Best Player: Kamarulzaman (Axe HC)

Veteran Category – Cup Winners:

*    Champion: TVT (RM1000 + RM1000, Medal, Challenge Trophy & Trophy)

*    Runner-up: SAS (RM800 + RM1000, Medal & Trophy)

*    3rd Place: Cheers B (RM600 + RM1000, Medal & Trophy)

*    4th Place: Cheers A (RM500 + RM1000, Medal & Trophy)

Special Awards (Veteran):

*    Best Goalkeeper: Ezuan Ghazali (TVT)

*    Top Scorer: Sarjit Singh (SAS) – 5 goals

*    Best Player: Afandi Sulaiman (TVT)

Under-12 (U12) Category – Cup Winners:

*    Champion: ARHC (RM700 + RM1000 + RM1000, Medal, Challenge Trophy & Trophy)

*    Runner-up: Star 1 (RM500 + RM1000 + RM1000, Medal & Trophy)

*    3rd Place: PG Boys (RM400 + RM1000, Medal & Trophy)

*    4th Place: King Black HC (RM300 + RM1000, Medal & Trophy)

Special Awards (U12):

*    Best Goalkeeper: Muhammad Hayyan Rizqi (PG Boys)

*    Top Scorer: Muhammad Haziq Aiman (ARHC) – 13 goals
