Sivasangari is Ivy League Player of the Year

PETALING JAYA: Squash player S. Sivasangari (pic) has bagged the coveted Ivy League Player of the Year.

The 23-year-old from Kedah, who is now based in the United States, is the first player from Cornell University to receive the accolade.

According to an announcement in the university’s official sports website, https://cornellbigred.com, Sivasangari achieved a 12-0 winning record to start the regular season.

The world No. 26 is currently the country’s No. 1 woman player.

Sivasangari, together with compatriot and fellow university mate Lai Wen Li, have also been selected into the All-Ivy League team.

“So happy to be named the Ivy League Player of the Year! Shout out to the best team I’ve got in Cornell,” said Sivasangari.

The other members of the All-Ivy League Team comprise Hong Kong’s Sin Yuk Chan, Egyptian Farida Mohamed, Habiba Mohamed (Columbia); Egypt’s Hana Moataz and Habiba Eldafrawy, Americans Marina Stefanoni and Serena Daniel (Harvard), and Canadian Andrea Toth (Princeton).

Ivy League is an American collegiate athletic conference, comprising prestigious and highly selective universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia.
