PETALING JAYA: National shooter Benjamin Khor and his teammates are hitting form at the right time ahead of the SEA Games after a rewarding campaign at the Southeast Asian Shooting Championship (SEASA) in Thailand.
On Tuesday, Benjamin bagged silver in the individual Compak Sporting discipline before teaming up with his father Edward Khor and Nicholas Newell Bateman to capture the team gold with a total of 529 points at the Photharam Shooting Range in Thailand.
Hosts Thailand settled for silver with 519 points while the Philippines took bronze (515 points).
Benjamin was pleased with the team’s overall performance but acknowledged there is still room for improvement.
"It has been a rewarding yet humbling week at the SEASA Championships," said Benjamin.
"I’m proud of our team’s effort – taking team gold in the Compak Sporting discipline and team bronze in the Sporting event, while personally securing the individual silver medal in both events.
"These results are encouraging, but they also remind us how fine the margins have become in Southeast Asian shooting.
"The skills are already well honed – what truly separates competitors now is mental composure, focus and the ability to stay calm under pressure."
Earlier on Sunday, Benjamin won the individual silver medal and teamed up with his father Edward, Koh Chun Cheuk and Bateman to secure the team bronze in the Sporting discipline.
He believes the team are building the right momentum for the SEA Games in December as they continue to sharpen both their technical skills and mental toughness.
"The Games are just 12 weeks away and our aim is to continue sharpening our rhythm, teamwork and tactical awareness," said Benjamin.
"The team have been putting in a lot of focused work – not just technically, but also mentally.
"Everyone’s been disciplined and consistent in training and we’re using this tournament as a good benchmark heading into the SEA Games.
"We’ll focus on what we can control, stay grounded and keep our head clear.
"We’ll be as ready as we can – taking things one step at a time."
