Cyprus soccer club chairman gunned down outside home, police say

NICOSIA (Reuters) -The chairman of a Cypriot second division soccer club was fatally shot in the coastal city of Limassol on Friday, police said.

The victim, who police identified as Stavros Demosthenous, 49, was chairman of the Karmiotissa soccer club. Unknown assailants opened fire on him outside his home, and he died while his son was driving him to hospital.

Karmiotissa competed in the first division last season, and was relegated to second division in the current season. It has mainly played in lower divisions since it was established in 1979.
