PETALING JAYA: Shooter Johnathan Wong has secured his ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics on merit after finishing fourth in the men’s 10m air pistol at the Asian Shooting Championships in Changwon, South Korea.

Johnathan qualified for the 10m pistol final after finishing seventh among 48 shooters with a score of 582 points. The top eight shooters advanced to the final from the qualifying round.

In the final on Tuesday (Oct 24), Johnathan came close to winning a bronze medal but finished fourth with a score of 201.1 behind India’s Sarabjot Singh (221.1).

China duo Zhang Yifan (243.7) and Liu Jinyao (242.1) bagged gold and silver respectively.

Johnathan and Sarabjot secured the two merit Olympic quota slots allocated at the Asian Championships as China had already secured their two places for the men’s 10m air pistol.

Johnathan competed in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics but did not qualify for the Tokyo Games in 2021.
