PETALING JAYA: Karate exponent C. Shahmalarani has assured herself a medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after reaching the women’s kumite below 50kg final on Wednesday (Sept 23).
The 27-year-old won 3-2 in a closely fought semi-final bout against Uzbekistan’s Gulshan Alimardanova at the Toyohashi Gymnasium.
Shahmalarani, who is competing in her second Asiad, had put on a dominant display earlier by beating Macau’s Fong Man Wai 8-0 in the last 16, before winning 5-4 against Bangladesh’s Saiama Jaman.
Shahmalarani will face Hong Kong’s Tsang Yee Ting in the final. Tsang Yee had beaten the Philippines’ Marie June Adriano 5-4 in the other semi-final bout.
