England and Australia share spoils

ENGLAND’S men’s 3x3 basketball side held onto their Commonwealth title after a tight 19-17 victory over Australia.

Earlier, it had been Australia celebrating over England after winning the men’s 3x3 wheelchair competition.

Australia’s Eithen Leard said, in a massive understatement, that his team had “started to figure out this sport”.

In the women’s wheelchair final, England beat Scotland 18-10 for gold, while Australia’s women upgraded their bronze from Birmingham 2022 to gold with a 21-11 victory over Uganda.

Beyonce dances her way to semis

THERE are just 12 athletes representing the British Virgin Islands at Glasgow 2026, but three of them line up in the 200m semi-finals at the EDF Scotstoun Stadium after qualifying heats.

Beyonce Defreitas won her heat in the women’s event, while her teammates Wanyae Belle and the nation’s record holder Jaleel Croal put in solid times to make the men’s semis.

Fourth time's the charm

FOUR-TIME Commonwealth Games veteran Merven Clair of Mauritius will claim his first-ever medal – he’s guaranteed at least a bronze – after a unanimous decision victory in his men’s 70kg boxing quarter-final over Ghana’s Precious Akai Nettey.

“This is my last Commonwealth Games and it’s my fourth,” Clair said.

“I lost my first time, I lost my second, and I lost my third, but I never gave up.”
