PETALING JAYA: Malaysia captured the Sepak Takraw World Cup quadrant title for the first time after defeating India in the final at Titiwangsa Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (May 19).
It was a repeat of their Group C clash, where Malaysia had earlier defeated India to keep their hopes of reaching the quarter finals alive.
Malaysia stuck with the same quartet of Amirul Zazwan Amir, Aidil Aiman Zawawi, Afifuddin Razali and Shahalril Aiman.
India also retained Ram Kumar, Sorokhaibam Singh, Yumnam Akash and Bobby Kumar in their line up.
India put up a strong fight, but Malaysia were simply too good, taking the match 17-15, 15-10 to clinch the world title.
The victory also provided some consolation after Malaysia’s regu squad fell short in the semi finals, losing 9-15, 10-15 to Myanmar.
However, Myanmar fell short in the final after losing 15-8, 13-15, 15-7 to Thailand.
