MALAYSIA recorded their best-ever medal haul at an overseas SEA Games, finishing fourth at the 33rd edition in Thailand with 57 gold, 57 silver and 117 bronze medals — a total of 231 that comfortably surpassed the 200-medal target.

• WORLD badminton champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei lifted the mixed doubles title in Paris in August, becoming only the second Malaysian pair to win a world crown after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in 2022.
Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah added history by claiming silver, the first Malaysian women’s pair to podium at the worlds.

• TAN Cheong Min made history by winning Malaysia’s first wushu gold at the World Games in Chengdu, while the national team enjoyed their best-ever world meet outing with five gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Brazil.

• MOHD Shah Firdaus Sahrom claimed his first major world-stage keirin gold at the Track Nations Cup in Cairo, stepping out of the shadows of two-time Olympic medallist Azizulhasni Awang.

• YEOH Li Tian became Malaysia’s first chess Grandmaster after securing his final norm and crossing the 2500 FIDE rating mark in Kuala Lumpur in August.

• NATASHA Roslan crowned a dream year by becoming the first Malaysian to win the bowling World Cup.
