BANGKOK: Syafiq Zuber fell short in his bid to claim a third straight SEA Games gold medal in taekwondo.

The 25-year-old was beaten 0-2 by Thailand's Cho Chaichon in the final of the men's below 87kg category at Fashion Island Mall today.

Syafiq had won the men's below 80kg category in the last two editions in Vietnam (2022) and Cambodia 2023).

It is the first medal though for Malaysian taekwondo team in the kyorugi competition.

Malaysia won one gold and two silver medals in the poomsae discipline on Wednesday.
