Teng on target in Tianjin

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia continued their good run at the World Junior Wushu Championships with youngster Teng Jou Xin (pic) bagging the fourth gold in Tianjin, China.

Jou Xin came out tops in girls’ jianshu 12-14 (sword) category after scoring 8.710 points.

Jou Xin, who was inspired to take up wushu after watching former world champion exponent Wong Weng Son performing, proved she has what it takes to step up to the big time in the near future.

It is her second gold on the world junior stage after winning the jianshu children category (12 and under) at the last edition in Brunei two years ago.

“I hope to represent the national team one day but I know I have to work harder to improve myself.

“I’m happy to finish with my best results in the world junior meet campaign,” said Jou Xin, who like Weng Son specialises in the changquan, qiangshu (spear) and jianshu events.

Jou Xin also won bronze in the qiangshu and finished sixth in the changquan final last week.

The other gold medal winners are Chlamous Shin Jay Wong, Ho Jing Thye and Crystal Wee.

Malaysia have collected a total of four gold, four silver and five bronze medals.
