PETALING JAYA: National rider Hakim Danish Ramli got his breakthrough win in the Moto3 World Championship after winning the Grand Prix of Czechia on Sunday (June 21).
The 18-year-old put on a blazing run to charge through the field from 14th on the grid to cross the line in first with a time of 33:34.26s to clinch his maiden victory in the Moto3 World Championship.
Hakim, racing for Aeon Credit-MT Helmets-MSi, had initially qualified to start second on the grid, but was handed a 12-position penalty for slow riding during the qualifying session on Saturday.
Despite the setback, Hakim showed incredible pace to win the race and by doing so, ended Malaysia’s 10-year-wait for a winner in the championship after Khairul Idham Pawi last won the Moto3 German Grand Prix in 2016.
Meanwhile, Spanish rider Brian Uriarte came in second, followed by compatriot Maximo Quiles in third.
