SEPANG: It was a perfect day for Malaysia’s Akash Nandy as he romped to a grand double in Round 5 of the Formula Masters China Series at the Sepang International Circuit on Saturday.

The 16-year-old Akash took the chequered flag in Race 13 in 26:39.371 ahead of fellow Malaysian Afiq Ikhwan Yazid. The 22-year-old Afiq, who is under the Petronas talent development programme, clocked 26:42.501 while Australian Aidan Wright finished third in 26:47.354.

Akash proved to be on top of his game again in Race 14 as the Cebu Pacific Air KCMG pilot swiftly pulled away from the chasing pack as early in the second lap. He completed the race in 13:01.570.

Afiq settled for second spot again with his time of 13:06.561 while his Meritus team-mate Aidan finished third in 13:07.858.

Akash was overjoyed to score back-to-back victories.

“The team did an extremely good job. They gave me a competitive set-up and just the right amount of fuel. Their precision allowed me to win today.”

The series will continue today with Race 15.
