Young Tigers suffer 6-0 loss against Holland in Junior World Cup match

PETALING JAYA: The national junior hockey team suffered a 6-0 thrashing by Holland in the Junior World Cup in India on Sunday (Nov 30).

Playing their second Group E match in Madurai, the Young Tigers were punished early on when Holland’s Casper van der Veen scored two goals back-to-back in the eighth and ninth minutes.

In the second quarter, it was double goals in quick succession again, this time with Joppe Wolbert scoring a field goal and converting a penalty stroke in the 19th and 20th minutes.

Before half-time, Thies Bakker extended the lead even more by making it 5-0 in the 27th minute.

The goal fest didn’t end there as Tjeerd Boermans made it six for Holland in the 41st minute.

Malaysia had initially started their campaign in India strongly, achieving a 5-1 victory against Austria in their opening group stage match on Saturday (Nov 29).

The Young Tigers will play their next match against England on Tuesday (Dec 2).
