PETALING JAYA: National hockey player Andywalfian Jeffrynus (pic) is relishing the opportunity to play alongside his seniors after joining Tenaga Nasional for the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) next month.
The 20-year-old earned himself the call-up from Tenaga’s junior squad – the Thunderbolts – ahead of the 2026 MHL season from April 11-May 17.
The rising player has been making a name for himself with the Speedy Tigers in recent outings, making his debut with the senior team at the Nations Cup last year, and followed it up with a recall for the Asia Cup.
Recently, Andywalfian earned international caps at the World Cup Qualifiers in Ismailia, Egypt, where Malaysia qualified through rankings after finishing in fourth place.
The Sabah-born defender started all five matches in Egypt, and walked away with stitches to the back of his head after taking a hard hit during the outing.
Andywalfian was thrilled to get the chance to play alongside his seniors in Tenaga as the team look to reclaim the league title they last won in 2024.
“I’m really happy to get this opportunity to play with the seniors,” said Andywalfian.
“These are the players I look up to and now I get to play with them on the same team.”
Andywalfian is among three rising players who were roped into Tenaga from their junior set-up as Azimuddin Kamaruddin and Adam Asyraf Johari also earned themselves spots in the team.
Tenaga will start their season against Terengganu in the Charity Shield on April 11.
