Former national hockey captain Wong Choon Hin dies at 75


PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysian hockey captain Wong Choon Hin (pic) has died at the age of 75 on Wednesday (Nov 26).

Wong Choon Hin captained the national team and represented Malaysia at the 1972 Munich and 1976 Montreal Olympics, where the team finished eighth on both occasions.

He was also part of the squad that won bronze at the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran, following a fourth-place finish at the 1970 Bangkok edition. His career highlights include helping Malaysia secure fourth place at the 1973 World Cup in Holland and the 1975 edition in Kuala Lumpur.

Choon Hin earned more than 80 international caps during his career and was named Selangor Sportsman of the Year in 1976, ahead of the late football legend Mokhtar Dahari.
