AT a time when Malaysian women’s golf is as topical as it’s ever been, one of the nation’s brightest young stars, Winnie Ng, has announced her move to the professional ranks.
A graudate with two degrees in Communication and CHID from the University of Washington, and a Graduate Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the University of Missouri, Winnie said she took the decision after much thought and discussion.
She joins the pro ranks with an impressive amateur record, one that saw her win 16 amateur titles and three professional victories – on the PGM and Toyota Tours.
Her most recent wins include the 38th Malaysia Ladies Amateur Open, the 47th RSGC Ladies Amateur Open and Supra Cup on the Toyota Tour.
Transitioning to pro golf, Winnie thanked Acushnet for their “ongoing support of golfing equipment”, EITA Resources Bhd whom she serves as corporate brand ambassador and Kelab Golf Negara Subang in Kuala Lumpur and Tanjung Puteri Golf and Countyr Club in Johor, which she uses for training.
Her schedule going forward includes her first tournament as a pro at the Toyota Tour’s Yaris Cup, starting Tuesday at the Mines Gofl Club.
She also plans to play in the Party Golfers Ladies Open from Nov 13-15 at Lily Golf & Country Club in Hsinchu, Taiwan, before entering the Taiwan LPGA Q-School at Suncity Golf Club in GuanXi, Hsinchu from Nov 20-22.
This will be followed by the TAYA Ladies Open from Dec 11-13 at Chianan Golf Club in Tainan, and Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open from Dec 18-20 at Taifong Golf Club in Taichung.
Winnie is also keen on the Ladies European Tour Pre-Qualifying in December in Morocco and the Australia LPGA Q-School in early 2025. She has an eye too on the LPGA Q-School next August.
