THE Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Southern celebrated their 20th anniversary in Johor with their annual charity golf tournament and a members’ dinner.

Held at Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, the highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque worth RM40,000 to the Hope Garden Society, a charity dedicated to the running of an orphanage and providing care for children in need.

This humble act reflected the MICCI Southern’s continued commitment to giving back to the community.

MICCI President Christina Tee said: “This landmark event, which has been fostering relationships within the business community for two decades, welcomed 136 golfers and 270 guests, all united by a shared spirit of camaraderie and charity.

“Many prominent businesses and industries were present, which underscored the event’s significance in strengthening regional business ties.

“This is part of MICCI’s efforts to continue fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas, potentially leading to new partnerships, synergies and opportunities that not only align with national development goals but also benefit the business community.”

Among the prominent figures in attendance were Consul General of Singapore in Johor Baru Ng Kuan Khai, Head of Economic Affairs at the Consulate General of Indonesia Andreza S. Dasuki, director of Malaysian Investment Development Authority Johor Mohamad Reduan Mohd Zabri, deputy director of the enforcement division in the Royal Malaysian Customs Department in Johor Mohd Yusni Yunus, vice-president of strategic communications at the Iskandar Regional Development Authority Lynn Goh, chairwoman of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce Dawn Tan Ly-Ru and vice-president of the Johor Master Builders Association Eugene Sau.

In addition to the competition on the golf course, where participants targeted the hole-in-one prizes of a BYD electric vehicle and motorbikes, the evening featured a charity auction.

Items such as paintings, XO brandy and a golf bag, generously donated by Datuk Jaafar Mohamad, were auctioned to help raise funds for the Hope Garden Society.

MICCI is the oldest chamber of commerce in Malaysia. It traces its history from the formation of the Penang Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture in 1837.

Following the amalgamation with the Perak Chamber of Commerce and the Selangor Chamber of Commerce in the early 20th century, the chamber was restructured in 1974 as a company limited by guarantee and renamed to what it’s known today.
