SERDANG: At just 1.60m, Selangor playmaker Haykal Danish Haizon may be one of the smallest players on the pitch, but he is making a big impact at the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
Inspired by national winger Faisal Halim, the 21-year-old has become one of Selangor’s driving forces, scoring four goals in four matches to fire the hosts into tomorrow’s football final.
“I am inspired by Faisal because he has shown that small-sized players can go far in the league,” said the national Under-23 player.
“You see his performances – he is always unfazed, and he recently won the Best Striker award, which shows his pedigree.”
Haykal was at his electric best yesterday, scoring twice as Selangor brushed aside Pahang 4-0 in the semi-final at the UITM Stadium in Shah Alam.
Izzat Muhaimin Syahir Zulihsan opened scoring in the 14th minute before Haykal struck in the 17th and 38th minutes before Rohisham Haiqal Hashim completed the rout in the 57th minute.
They will face either Johor or Perak at Petaling Jaya Stadium in the title match.
