PETALING JAYA: Selangor coach Kim Pan-gon believes the return of seven international players will add a fresh swagger to the Red Giants, who host Star City in the FA Cup quarter-final second leg at the Petaling Jaya Stadium today.
The players who featured in the recent FIFA Asean Cup are Jefferson Tabinas (the Philippines), Safuwan Baharuddin (Singapore) and Malaysians Quentin Cheng, Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar, Nooa Laine, Syahir Bashah and Faisal Halim.
“I believe our seven international players would have gained a lot of experience and also confidence in the recent Asean Cup,” said Pan-gon.
“They should give us more quality and ensure that we progress into the semi-finals.”
Selangor are fancied to advance, holding a 4-1 lead from the first leg. The winners will face either Kuching City or Kelantan City in the semi-finals.
Despite the comfortable cushion, Pan-gon insisted there was no room for complacency.
“For us, the FA Cup is very, very important. Even though we are three goals ahead, we can’t lose our attention. So we need everybody to support each other to make it perfect and get to the semi-finals.
“Our fans also need to come and support us.”
