PETALING JAYA: A single phone call was all it took to convince Daniel Amier Norhisham (pic) to pack his bags for the east coast.
The 29-year-old, affectionately known as Boy to teammates, had been widely expected to stay on with Kuching City for a third straight season.
Instead, the Kuala Lumpur-born midfielder opted for a fresh challenge with Terengganu after a personal appeal from head coach Nafuzi Zain proved impossible to turn down.
“For me to move from Kuching to Terengganu, the biggest reason is Nafuzi Zain. He is the reason why I joined the team,” said Daniel.
“He called me personally and told me he could help broaden my horizons in football, and that is what attracted me.”
The box-to-box midfielder said he was thankful for the opportunity to join one of the country’s traditional powerhouses.
“I am grateful to God for charting the path I am on now, especially to be with Terengganu, who we all know are a big team in the Malaysian League,” he said.
“I’m happy and excited to be part of this set-up for the new season.”
Daniel added that he went in with his eyes open, aware that a place in the squad would have to be earned.
“Before arriving, I assessed every factor before joining the team. Wherever you go, you have to tell yourself that there is competition in every team.
“For me, it’s a positive when you’re competing with top-quality players and meeting the demands of the coach. That’s how we improve as players, and that’s what we want at the end of the day.”
The other new midfielder that joined the team is Filipino midfielder Manuel Ott, who played for the Turtles from 2024 to 2025.
