PETALING JAYA: Terengganu coach Nafuzi Zain has urged his players to lift their intensity ahead of upcoming matches after his side were held to a goalless draw by Penang in the Super League on Saturday.
Despite carving out several clear-cut chances at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak, the Turtles could not find a breakthrough against a resolute Penang side.
Nafuzi admitted his team’s sluggish start proved costly.
“We created several chances that should have ended in goals, but in the end it was just a draw. It’s disappointing because we dropped three points at home,” said Nafuzi.
“Penang played well – they contained our attacks and occasionally launched dangerous counters. It feels like a loss, but the players tried hard tonight.”
After three matches with one win, one draw and one loss, Nafuzi struck a note of caution over Terengganu’s start to the campaign.
“Three games, four points, and five points dropped. Dropping five points from three home games is a significant loss. We can’t afford to drop more points moving forward. Whether playing home or away, we must win to stay competitive.”
Penang head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail was satisfied with a first league point of the season after two straight defeats.
